Anyone who has visited Edinburgh during the month of August will know how the city becomes a hub of vibrant culture, with visitors flocking from all over the world as the summer of festivals kicks in. Defined by the Fringe Festival, the Edinburgh International Festival, and the Edinburgh International Book Festival (to name just a few), the month of August is full of exciting events, with Appetite Direct often at the centre of it. Keen to bring our innovative expertise in food, drink, and events to the festivals and showcase our work to Edinburgh’s international visitors, our hardworking team from the kitchen and events team to our front of house staff all work relentlessly to pull off some of the most successful and exciting events of the year. With big events booked in our calendar from sponsoring the International Festival to the annual festivities of the Foster’s Comedy Awards we have plenty to keep us busy. But what goes on behind the scenes to pull off so many events in the mad month of August?
In the early hours of the morning our first chefs begin to arrive to start prepping for the day. During the festivals we can five events across the City Centre on a normal day, so it’s crucial that our chefs arrive early in order to get started on today’s cooking.
The office computers boot up as the Events Team arrive to answer all of your enquiries and plan the perfect event. Juggling multiple orders at once throughout August, our events team are truly impressive in their ability to organise and carry out the perfect event, remembering all of the little details which make an occasion so personal and special. They will not only be in the office today, but also travelling all over Edinburgh visiting venues and meeting our clients.
Deliveries begin! With lunch time looming it’s time to deliver to our first events of the day. Typically we’ll be delivering our delicious food to corporate lunches and summer parties across the city.
Lunchtime! Time for our staff to have a brief break and enjoy a delicious lunch prepared in house by our chefs. Today we’ve got…
Our weekly staff menu meeting begins. Here our entire team come together to look at the busy week ahead, confirming menus and our plan of action.
Just as the office is closing up for the day, our front of house staff get ready to go and carry out this evenings work. Juggling multiple events a night, we’ll be serving Canapes, drinks, buffets, and dinners across Edinburgh’s greatest venues.
The front of house waiting staff arrive ready to serve some pre-show Canapés. Tonight we’re serving at the King’s Theatre before the Edinburgh International Festival performance of Tennessee Williams’ The Glass Menagerie.
As the canapé reception comes to a close, we’re switching venues to prepare a post-performance buffet. Tonight we’re off to the Usher Hall where our chefs are already on site working hard to get the food ready.
Dinner is served! Our buffets offer a great selection, perfect for a more relaxed event and an opportunity to try a range of our delicious dishes
And there’s still room for Dessert and Tea and Coffee!
As the guests start to go home for the night, all that’s left to do is clear up and pack up the van. Ready to start again at 7am tomorrow….
