National Fishing Month from the 22nd July.
It will soon be national fishing month, not that we needed an excuse to pull on some wellies and grab our rods!
National fishing month encourages everyone to try their hand at fishing, and in our eyes that includes eating! Fish is one of the most varied and delicious items in Scotland’s larder and if you’ve ever caught a creature of the deep (or even attempted) you’ll know that makes it all the sweeter!
Fish varies so widely in flavor that there is no one size fits all method.
When it comes to cooking your fish classically a robust fillet will fry up wonderfully in a pan. However, if you find yourself with something more delicate consider other methods such as steaming or even poaching. After all it spent it’s life in water, it makes sense that it would be happy cooking in it too!
The trick to finishing your dish is pairing flavors that will compliment but not outshine your catch. Delicate herbs such as Dill have been used with fish since time immemorial but Samphire – technically a seaweed – has also started popping up in commercial supermarkets for easy purchase (and it’s delicious).
There is, undoubtedly, one surefire way to eat your fish. Like the French, Yes Fred our resident Frenchman has persuaded us all….a little butter, a little lemon, some potatoes and handful of whatever green is in season….Bon Appetite!
