Wedding Planning

Hints and Tips for the big day.

So, it seemed like such a good idea to learn calligraphy and hand write all your name place cards. And the favors are so adorable but they just don’t look as good without that bit of string tied there. Should you get menus per guests or table? Uncle Fred doesn’t eat poultry – since when? Yes months ago it seemed like such a good idea to learn calligraphy but suddenly your Wedding is in a matter of weeks and as your home is slowly turning into a publication of Scottish Wedding Directory you can’t help but think you’ve forgotten something….

The first rule for wedding planning – Don’t stop breathing.

It really doesn’t have to be a daunting task. There are some key things to remember:

  1. It’s YOUR day

That’s right. This day is about you and your love. Your guests are already delighted to have been included in such a special occasion.  Too often couples can get lost in worrying about meeting all the intricate needs of their guests or what they are supposed to do. Once you say I DO and sign the registrar it’s your party – and trust us anything goes!

  2. Delegation

While it is your day there is also a whole well of resources to tap in to. Delegate to your friends, play to their strengths and make sure all those ushers and bridesmaids get put to work. Additional duties like MC or setting up the Polaroid table can be given to your friends who suit the role best. Your guests will love to be entrusted with part of your special day. So if you do really love calligraphy, hand write your name cards. But if it’s not your bag, delegate to your artsy friend from Uni or pay to get them beautifully printed with all your other stationary.

  3. Introduce Your Suppliers

You may find your suppliers already know or have worked with each other in the past. It is always good to introduce, we’re all friendly! Venues will take full contacts but florists often need to know from caterers when linen will be on tables and the caterer may need to know from the band how many people and how much space they require. And don’t be shy to ask your suppliers for advice if you are unsure about any element of the bi day. More than likely they have the answer you are looking for.

And if you are a natural planner – you could be in for the most exciting six months of your life!
